Summary of Background:
KAISER PERMANENTE, 2011
Project manager for data migration and technology refresh projects. Kaiser is in the process of migrating all of their data storage from IBM ESS storage to EMC DMX and VMAX storage.
Project manager for storage systems, networks, and enterprise software implementations, managing between 8 and 12 projects for a variety of clients simultaneously. Projects included storage implementations, storage consolidations, disaster recovery implementations, retail store communications installation and wiring, and storage and network assessments.
SMCTEK CONSULTING, OWNER - 2003 TO PRESENT
Owner of a one-person consulting company providing IT implementation project management, data center and data management assessments, and competitive analysis services on a contract basis. The following are the projects I have worked on:
Storage Competitive Analyst - Analyst developing competitive studies comparing the client's new enterprise storage product to the competition in the midrange and enterprise storage market space. The studies compared and documented the products in these principal areas:
Data Center Assessment Subject Matter Expert, Capacity Planning Specialist - data assessment and capacity management consultant working with the Forest Service as they migrated data from 182 small data centers all over the United States into two large data centers. The study considered three principal areas:
The study included a capacity plan for the expansion of server, storage, and network infrastructure over the 15-month data migration project to handle the new data, applications, and network traffic. The deliverables included a detailed report that documented the findings and recommendations of the study as well as the storage, server, and network configurations.
Media Architect and Project Manager - designed and managed the installation of video and sound systems for St. Matthew's new church building, coordinating the installation with the construction of the building, and worked with the electrical and general contractors to design and install necessary cable runs and electrical infrastructure. The project included the design of the systems, procurement of equipment, and management of a team of 8 part-time workers, including a multimedia consultant, who installed the video systems.
Project Manager, EMC Technology Services - worked with as a project manager for implementations of storage infrastructure solutions that include data migrations, business continuance, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations. Project services revenue of approximately $800K.
Senior Project Manager, Technical Business Consultant, Storage Architect - consultant on storage infrastructure assessments, business continuance, disaster recovery, and continuity of operations. Developed a detailed data management survey and performed major data management study for US Military Test Ranges. The team interviewed approximately 324 people at 18 test ranges for the study. The output of the study was a report that documented the findings and recommendations of the study. Project-managed implementation of a disaster recovery solution for the Air Force, participated in the design/architecture of that solution.
C SQUARED CONSULTING 2001 TO 2003
Senior Technology Consultant, Storage Architecture and Management
EMC CORPORATION 1998 TO 2001
Site Manager, Managed Services
Project Manager, Professional Services
Managed EMC Storage Area Network implementation and storage infrastructure assessment projects, and performed system architecture design for these projects, provided customers with streamlined storage infrastructures and contributed to additional sales of EMC storage area network systems. Prepared statements of work, project plans, and project architectural documents in support of project management activities.
Senior Consultant, Professional Services
Performed Storage Infrastructure Assessments for several large EMC customers as part of the assessment team. Assessments examined ways to expand the use of Enterprise Storage Technology to improve operations, protect the customer's data, increase data availability, and reduce cost of ownership of storage systems. These assessments solidified the relationship between EMC and these customers and enabled them to improve their storage management processes, contributing to additional EMC sales. I received an EMC Best practices award for one of these assessments.
Staff Software Engineer
Developed a performance measurement system for Windows that delivers measurement data to a Java client application through the World Wide Web.
Senior Software Engineer
As part of Software Quality Assurance group, designed and implemented test procedures for Windows-based Capacity Planning simulation modeling software, and developed test plans and tested the software using Microsoft Rational Test system
Provided technical support to marketing for simulation modeling software, including competitive analysis and product demonstrations. Designed course materials and conducted technical training classes in Capacity Planning and the use of Zitel software, giving customers the knowledge they needed to use the software effectively to perform capacity planning. Developed a system for tracking software trouble reports, improving software quality and improving customer service and satisfaction.
Developed and supported data collection and analysis software for that provided input data for the capacity planning software.
Capacity Planning Specialist
Developed, supported, used, and taught classes on a software system which collected and analyzed system measurement data and developed analytical models of computer systems. Performed workload studies on several customer sites to acquire knowledge and data for capacity planning tools development. Managed several capacity planning projects and performed the workload forecasting and modeling studies for these projects, contributing to sales of at least $50 million over a 2-year period.
Conducted competitive studies that analyzed the features and performance of systems that competed with Burroughs computer systems. These studies were used as input to the system software and hardware design process.
Designed and built a hardware system for performance measurement, and used it to measure minicomputer performance and to solve performance problems.
